Over the test of time and the history of battles, both the M4 carbine and the AK47 have been scrutinized on which weapon system is the better assault rifle for American troops to use. These dealers of death both have the same result, but in terms of size/weight, ammunition, firepower/ accuracy, reliability and service life.One can argue, that one assault rifle id better than the other. The M4 carbine entered the military in 1997, which was a more compact version of its predecessor the M16a2. The M4 carbine has a strong agile body. The M4 favors are versatility and modularity. The M4 assault rifle has a rail that allows the operator to mount optics and lighting components. The AK47 uses a larger bullet as previously discussed, the larger bullet leads to more kick back and recoil upon firing the weapon. The AK has only two select firing positions, semi automatic and fully automatic. Without a single round firing mode, the weapon fires multiple rounds at a time, which makes it less accurate.Although the weapon is less accurate, the gun is heavier and has a slower rate of fire. This function helps mitigating the recoil from firing it. Name one place you would like to visit and explain why? I would be a fool to sit here and choose one place when there are so many beautiful countries, islands, cities, and even states that I have never visited. Ultimately, my dream place to visit will be somewhere surrounded by a full body of water. This place must be exotic enough to take my mind off my student loans. My idea getaway would be anywhere on the Malaysia Island which is because of the beaches, rain forest, and Mulu National Park in Sarawak. The Malaysian Island gives a good view of the ocean and the breeze that blows around the beaches is rumored to be refreshing. In Malaysia, I would like to visit one of the five star beach luxury resorts. The resorts are situated between the rain forest and beautiful sandy beaches. I have also read according to â€Å"Tourism Malaysia About Us† the beach gives a good view of the sun setting. The rain forest make the sea coast warm, by blocking winds that would cause cold effects to the beach and this will make the environment suitable for tourism attraction sites. With that in mind, I could imagine taking advantage of the services that is offered on the beaches. I would enjoy my experience in the refreshing environment and at the same time gaining knowledge of this gorgeous island. The beaches of Malaysia are known to have the added advantage of being relatively unknown. The rain forests in Malaysia are mostly dominated by trees and are known to be suitable for a tourism attraction site. The rainforests of Malaysia, for example, contain about 6,000 species of trees according to the â€Å"World Wildlife Fund.† Even as Malaysia’s rain forest yields to clearing and over-exploitation national parks provide some opportunity to explore their primal richness. The equator which marks the hottest place on Earth runs right through the nation of Malaysia to create a warm, highly moist region that is ideal for plant life. The Malaysia rain forest is so dense with growth, I would have to travel several meters deep into the plant layer to find tropical flowers. Many varieties of tropical flowers can be found deep within the forest. The Hibiscus, known to Malaysian’s as the Bunga Raya, which is the national flower of the country because it is so widely sp read throughout the nation. The Hibiscus is considered to have medical uses in Chinese Herbology. It may have potential in cosmetic skin care for example, an extract from the flowers of Hibiscus shown to function as an anti-solar  agent by absorbing Ultraviolet radiation. The red color of the flower is said to symbolize courage, it appears to be that Malaysians find inspiration in flowers. The impressive wildlife diversity in the Malaysia rain forest includes large, dramatic animals that biologist call â€Å"charismatic megafauna† these are represented by such creatures as the orangutan and the clouded leopard which lives in the rainforest. Malaysia’s most internationally recognized limestone area, famed for its monstrous caves and stately pinnacle is Mulu National Park in Sarawak. The Mula National Park contains significant natural habitat for conservation of biological diversity and protection of threatened species and according to â€Å"Tourism Malaysia About Us.† It is rumored that Mulu National Park is naturally beautiful and a place for the entire family to enjoy. They offer cave activities, forest activities, eating, and sleeping up to 80 people per night in a range of accommodations. Mulu’s concentration of caves, it is geomorphic and structural characteristics are an outstanding resource, which allows a greater understanding of Earth’s history. Mulu also has outstanding scenic values, including the natural phenomenon of millions of bats and swiftlets leaving and entering the caves in a superlative. After gathering all this information, I was convinced to visit Malaysia Islands, considering Mulu’s spectacular scenery and its biological significance. It does not surprise me that United Nations Educational Scientific and Cultur al Organization successfully listed Mulu as a World Heritage Site in November 2000. In conclusion, initially when I was asked my first impulse was somewhere on the Malaysia islands because what I was told about the island significant natural habitat. The magnificent views of the ocean will blow my mind. I can vision visiting the Malaysian islands and indulging in the excursions the beaches has to offer. Plus, having the opportunity to take advantage of taking a tour of the rain forest in Malaysia will be more than a lifetime experience. To put the icing on the cake, camping overnight in the cave would be a tremendous adventure at the Mulu National Park. After seeing pictures on Google’s website of the island, I cannot imagine anyone not seeing or hearing the Malaysian’s Island Airline flight 370 traveling to Benjing. While visiting the island I could inquire about people thoughts or feelings towards flight 370 this could be interesting.

An Analysis of Google’s Internal Management

An analysis of Google's internal management and its possible application to other industries. Abstract Google is a company which is well known for providing a unique work environment, welfare system and flat structure for employees. It has also been awarded â€Å"The best company for work† many times. We are going to do the research on their internal management, and then define their key factors of success; moreover applying Google's management to different industry. In addition, if a company has a good internal management, employees will not only enhance their effectiveness but also keep those employees with good performance to stay in the company and reduce errors.Consequently, my topic is to investigate how the internal management encourages employees to be creative and effect ive. I am going to do the research on Google, which is a well-known search engine. Google's internal management is also well known to the whole world for its work environment, welfare system and company culture. I have chosen this topic for my research report, on the one hand, I want to be a successful leader and I am going to study business management for my master degree.On the other hand, my father and his friends are all successful businessmen, who always teach me some practical and professional knowledge about management and share their personal experiences to me. Furthermore, they once suggested me studying business management, which may be useful in the future, for the reason that if you want to organize a company profitably and prosperously, you must master in good management skills. As a result, I am Interested in business management. I strongly believe that a good management method could affect the whole enterprise.Every year, Fortune Magazine sorts out a list, named †Å"Fortune 100 Best Companies to Work for†. In preparing the list, the magazine relies on two criteria: the culture and the policies of each company as well as the opinions of the company's own employees. Google has topped the Fortune's list for many times. It can be proven that Google's internal management has done very well. Thus, the following research objectives were set: 1. To analyse Google's internal management (SWOT). 2. To estimate how well Google's internal management could be applied to different industries. 2. Literature Review 2. Work environment A good work environment could influence employees very much. For example, to reduce stress, Google's employees can play volleyball, football, video games, table tennis or even roller hockey on the campus, which makes employees feel like they are still at the college campus rather than being in the office. (Kuntze, R. and Matulich, E. 2010). Another remarkable example is that respecting the employees who are from different cultures. Google currently has 14 offices in different states and more than 40 countries worldwide; it must have many workers from different nationalities.In different offices have various local customs of decoration and interior decoration (Google). 2. 2 Welfare system Google provides its employees with a wide range of benefits to make sure that the employees are satisfied and loyal to the company. These benefits include: free food, onsite childcare, healthcare services, transportation services, laundry and dry cleaning services, sport facilities, pets allowed, 20% creative time program, environmentalism, numerous holiday and leave days, and other services (Kuntze, R. and Matulich, E. 2010). The other companies have never executed these benefits mentioned above.In addition, their welfare system has few innovative rules, â€Å"The company has a policy of unlimited sick leave, and only expects employees to work 70% of the time. It factors in opportunities for staff to think of ways to work better, and allows impromptu sport during the work day. † (Logan, 2008:3). 2. 3 Company culture Although Google is a Large-scale company, their leader tries to maintain their atmosphere feels like a small company without hierarchy, employees can say whatever they want to say, they can bring up all of their ideas or thinking to their manager whenever they want. Google). Furthermore, Google attempts to keep the good employees in the company and have a good relationship between leaders and employees. Every Friday afternoon the founders gather all employees into an open area for a TGIF meeting. (Raphael: 2003). 3. Methodology A SWOT analysis is a well known management tool, one of which could very quickly to find strengths and weaknesses. It could apply to all kinds of research. Strengths Google's internal management has many strengths, one of strengths is that all of its offices have good work environments; they design different interior decorations according to different culture, and build up many recreational facilities, for the sack of reducing stress as well as increasing creativity and efficiency.The second strength is good welfare system, Google formulates some benefits not only to keep the good employees and encourage them to do their best but also devote to the company. Hamel reports that The Founders' Awards, an annual multimillion dollar payout to teams who've made outsize contributions to Google's growth, is one key retention mechanism The goal: to ensure that internal entre preneurs have no incentive to take their best ideas somewhere else. (2006: A16).The third strength is to keep structures flat, in a large company usually has hierarchy that would waste lots of time on paper works and have difficulty in retaining a good relationship between high level managers and low level employees, however Google try to keep the office's atmosphere like a small company. In Google, employees could raise their queries or propose their ideas to the managers or founders directly. It is unlike usual management which needs lots of paper works. Weaknesses Certainly, not everything could be perfect; Google also has some problems about its management.The first problem is cost; Google spends about 50% of revenue on their welfare system. (Kafka, 2009). Although founders thinks that could increase productivity and efficiency of the organization, the budget of welfare system spending still too much. The second problem is low salary, Google sets up many employees’ benefi ts and bonus system are better than other competitors; however, their pay is lower than the others. Most of Google's employees have fixed salaries that are significantly lower than the industry average, even when those base salaries are supplemented by stock options. (About. com 2009).The last example is lost in the crowds, the problem is some of employees want to issue their ideas but there are too many ideas in Google. Consequently, employees feel depressed when they can not issue their ideas. Hardy (2007) reports that with more than 20,000 people working for Google, some people feel their ideas are lost in crowds. It is a highly competitive environment with everybody trying to make the next â€Å"in† thing. Opportunities Google could create new policy or develop their welfare system, trying to find the new thing could let workers pay more attention to their works and elevate employee's creativity.In addition, encourage employee to work at home. Even though offices are deco rated like home or any places make employee feels relaxed, it is still a office not home, as s result, enable the workers to work at home could be one of the new solution to increase efficiency also reduce the costs. Threats After Google created the new vision of internal management, there are more and more enterprises copying Google's management method, not only the same industry but also others industries and applied to their companies. In manufacture industry, employees work at dangerous environment, they need a place to release their stress. Like Google's office, there are many places or equipments to help their workers reduce their stress. The next point is welfare system, most of the manufacture companies use original management, they do not have a good welfare system. As a result, if manufacture companies use Google's management method might urge worker's morale.Employees would feel satisfied staying in the company for a long time, it is good for those manufacture companies, because in this industry, company prefer employee who has long experience. The other point is hierarchy structure, most of employees who work for manufacture industry, and the education level is less than employees who work for information industry. Thus, in manufacture industry should use hierarchy structure to contain every step, because it would be easier to find the problem if error happens during the process.Moreover, the last point is industry's character is different, the duty of the manufacture industry is to produce goods, company must have done their work in time, however information industries mainly focus on creating new things, time is not a big issue as for them. Opportunities As we known, manufacture industry usually use original management. This management has a big gap between leader and worker, because they are very difficult to meet each other. Threats The Google's management style is free; it gives their worker to organize their time management by themselves. Although Google's employees have a lot of free time, they still do their job very well. The main problem is education level. In the information industry, most of employee's education levels are higher than people who are working for the manufacture industry.The meaning is high level education employees are more positive, their time management organization are better than those employees with low level education. 5. A literature review was therefore conducted on the compliance of patients with diabetes type 2 and the role of nursing interventions in improving compliance. The databases searched were CINAHL, British Nursing Index, ASSIA and The Cochrane Library. The results showed three main themes which have been discussed in the paper. The themes have been analyzed in the context of the research topic and implications for clinical practice have been highlighted. The studies are both qualitative as well as quantitative and have used several study designs such as randomized control trials, reviews, systematic literature review and correlational studies. The nursing-led interventions have not been studied taking a large sample and the study designs are at times not very reliable. This necessitates more researches to be done to reinforce the results of the previous studies. On a general note, the studies have suggested that nursing interventions aimed at providing more education, awareness and advice to the patients have positive effects on encouraging self-care and increasing compliance to control regimes. More researches need to be done on larger samples so that the results can be generalized to the entire population. The study helps to identify that implications for health care professionals from various departments exist; interprofessional team work from nurses, general practitioners, volunteers and social workers can collectively be focused on the better implementation of interventions and empowering diabetic patients. The present day transnationalism is far more diverse and encompasses private and public spheres of operation. Second generations of transnational immigrants display mobility in parental ethnic groups as well as in America society. The best method for immigrants to adapt to the host society derives through a combination of pluralism an d transnationalism. Immigrants cannot be expected to revoke their ethnic, cultural and religious ties to the mother country within a few short years of arrival in the host country. Instead the immigrants hold onto their identities in the form of transnatinoalism while the host society has to display pluralism in order to make the immigrants more accepted in society. The use of assimilation would on the other hand lead to friction between immigrants and host societies as a revocation of values is deemed necessary for cultural integration. Poverty And Health Inequalities Health And Social Care Essay Sociologists define social class as the grouping of people by occupations. The different positions represent different levels of power, influence and money1, 2. In the UK society was divided into 5 main groups of classes however the Office of National Statistics (ONS) produced a new socio-economic classification in 2001 (Table 1)3, 4. Social Class Up to 2001 From 2002 I 1-4 High Low II IIIN IIIM 5-8 IV V Table 1- Classification of Social class4 The Black Report and the Acheson Report In August 1980 the Department of Health (DOH) published the Black Report, also known as the Working Group on Inequalities in Health. The Report showed the extent to which ill-health and death are unequally distributed among the population of Britain, and suggested that these inequalities have been widening rather than decreasing since the formation of the National Health Service (NHS) in 19485. The Report concluded that these inequalities were not caused due to failings in the NHS, but because of many other social inequalities influencing health: income, education, housing, diet, employment, and conditions of work. In consequence, the Report recommended a wide strategy of social policy measures to reduce inequalities in health; however these recommendations were ignored not implemented 6. In 1998 The Acheson Report, also known as the Independent Inquiry into Inequalities in Health Report was published, this was 18 years after the Black Report, both reports showed similarities in thei r finding. The Acheson report showed a widening gap between different social groups (Figure 1)7. Figure 1-Number of deaths per 1000 by all causes for men aged 20-64 between 1991-19937 The report also noted that, while social determinants (Figure 2) affect peoples health across their lives, the early years are a particularly important stage of life, where poor socio economic circumstances have lasting effects. The Report recommended policies and interventions to reduce inequalities in access to the determinants of good health among parents, particularly mothers and children8, 9. The Main Determinants of Health Figure 2- The Main Determinants of Health10 The Situation in the UK- Income and Poverty The main point that both the Black and Acheson report identified was the association between poverty, social class and health inequalities. This applied to all aspects of health including life expectancy, infant mortality and general level of health8. Poverty isolates people, reducing their ability to engage in social and community life. In a study comparing the poorest and richest fifth of households, poorer children had fewer opportunities for activities and socialising. Poverty is measured by looking at the low-income threshold. This is 60% of the median UK income 4, 11. In 2007/08, 13 ½ million people in the UK (Table 2) were living in households below the low-income threshold, an increase of 1  ½ million compared with the 2004/05 figures. This is around a fifth (22%) of the population. The number of people on low incomes is lower than it was during the early 1990s but is much greater than in the early 1980s11, 12. Those people living in poorer communities die younger and experience poorer physical and mental health throughout their life than those living in wealthier communities12, 13. There is a link between life expectancy at birth and social class in the UK. Those from social class I and II have a higher life expectancy at birth than those from social class IV and V .Professional men are expected to live to around 80 years and unskilled manual men to 72.7 years and for women, the figures are 85.1 and 78.1 years (Figure 3)14 Figure 3- Life expectancy of men and women at birth by social class UK, 1992-200515 This can be linked to death by major diseases in the UK, those from social class IV and V have a higher death rate compared to those form social class I and II (Figure 4).14, 15. Figure 4- Major causes of death 2003: Death rate for men aged 25-64 are 50-100% higher among those from manual backgrounds compared to those form non-manual backgrounds4, 12, 13. Infant Mortality in the UK The general association between poverty and health can be seen by looking at different diseases and mortality rates in the UK however one area which shows this association very clearly is child health. This is measured by looking at the rate of infant mortality. Infant mortality rate is the number of deaths of infants per 1000 live births16. There were 9,954 infant deaths overall in the period 2006-08, giving an overall infant mortality rate of 4.8 deaths per 1,000 live births (Table 3). Of those with a valid socio-economic group (8,709), the rate was 4.7 deaths per 1,000. Out of the 8,709 deaths in this category, 43% of these deaths (3,744) were in the Routine and Manual (RM) Social group, giving a rate of 5.4 deaths per 1,000 live births in this group 17, 18. When looking at different regions of the UK; it is clear that there is a significant difference in infant death rates. Infant death by region also has an association with poverty. The region with the highest proportion of households below the average income is the North East and West Midlands and it is the West midlands which has the highest infant death rate. The regions with the lowest portion of households below the average income, is the East and South East and it is the South East with the lowest number of infant deaths (Figure 7) 26, 27, 28. The leading causes of infant death include congenital abnormalities, Sudden Infant Death Syndrome (SIDS), problems related to complications of pregnancy, and infant respiratory distress syndrome (Table 4)19, 29. These factors are associated with income and poverty. The main three factors are low birth weight, smoking during pregnancy and ethnicity27. Low birth weight Babies birth weights are key indicators of the outcome of pregnancy, even though there can be considerable differences between the health and well-being of babies born at the same stage of pregnancy. Babies born with a low birth weight are at greatest risk of having immediate and long-term health problems. The smallest babies are the most likely to die in the first weeks and months of life. Babies born to parents from manual backgrounds (Social class 5-8) tend to be more likely to have low birth weight than those born to parents form non-manual social backgrounds (Social class 1-4) these differences continue throughout the decade (Figure 8)31. Figure 8- Graph shows the proportion of babies born each year who are classed as having low birth weight (less than 2.5 kilograms, 5  ½ lbs), between 1996-2006. It also shows the social class of the infants4. Smoking during pregnancy Smoking in pregnancy causes devastating outcomes; these are increased risk of miscarriage, still birth and death. If parents continue to smoke after pregnancy, there is an increased rate of sudden infant death syndrome32. In the UK in 2006, 33% of mothers from social class 5-8 (manual) smoked throughout pregnancy compared with only 22% of mothers from social class 1-4 (non manual) (Figure 9) 33. England 1998-2006 34 Exposure to passive smoking during pregnancy is associated with still birth, death and increase risk of lower respiratory tract infection in infants. One study found that in households where both parents smoke, young children have a 72 per cent increased risk of respiratory illnesses35. In 2006, 21% of non smoking pregnant women were exposed to the smoke of someone else usually a partner, throughout their pregnancy. Also 40% of mothers aged under 20 smoked throughout pregnancy compared with 13% of mothers aged 35 and over 33, 34. Ethnicity There are large differences in the infant mortality rates of ethnic groups in the UK, for babies born in 2005. Asian and Black ethnic groups accounted for over 11% of live births and 17% of infant deaths. Tackling Health Inequalities-A Programme for Action The Tacking Health Inequalities: A Programme for Action was launched in July 2003 by the Secretary of State for Health, its aim is to meet the governments targets to reduce the health gap on infant mortality and life expectancy by 2010. The Programme has a clear strategy to work on the following four delivery themes: Supporting families, mothers and children Engaging Communities and Individuals Preventing Illness and providing effective treatment and care Addressing the underlying determinants of health37 National Service Framework for Children, Young People and Maternity Services The National Service Framework for Children, Young People and Maternity Services (Childrens National Service Framework) is a 10 year programme aiming to improve childrens health, social care and promote high quality health care for women and their families. The standards set by this framework require services to: Promote healthy lifestyles. Tackle health inequalities Ensure that pregnant women receive high quality care throughout their pregnancy38 Infant Mortality National Support Team The Infant Mortality National Support Team (IMNST) was launched in autumn 2008. It supports the 43 areas with the highest infant mortality rate in the routine and manual group. The IMNST has 4 main aims (Figure.11)39. Tackling health inequalities is a top priority for the Government and the main focus is on narrowing the health gap between disadvantaged groups, communities and the rest of the country and on improving health overall. The policies, programmes and strategies in place are helping to reduce the health gap however there is a long way to go before there is significant change in health inequalities. This can be seen by looking at one of the Health Inequalities Public Service Agreement (PSA) targets (Box 1) and the progression of this target40. PSA Target on Infant Mortality By 2010 to reduce by at least 10% the gap in mortality between routine and manual groups and the population as a whole. There is a decrease of infant mortality amongst the routine and manual groups however to narrow the gap by at least 10% by 2010 is still a challenge (Table 6)41.
